Four stories with surprising endings
A Twist in the Tale Mike's fifth book, is a volume of four stories covering varied subjects. Two are light hearted and set in the cut-throat world of advertising and marketing. One is a "who-dun-it" and one is a tale of disappointment.
In the first story Pete, an advertising man in London, is suddenly made redundant. Finding difficulty in securing another suitable job due to the recession, he plans to try and a completely different lifestyle for a short while but he finds that it gradually takes over his whole life.
The second story tells how a small boy in the last world war sees Italian prisoners behind barbed wire in one of many prison camps that were built at that time on the Yorkshire Moors. He strikes up a friendship with one prisoner and after the war determines to go and find the man. But his dream search does not end as he hoped.
The next Tale deals with Dave, a Marketing Manager, who is having an affair with a colleague at work and gradually finds that she becomes more important to him than his wife. After agonising as to what to do about this dilemma in which he finds himself he finally makes a decision. But fate intervenes in a way that he wouldn't have expected.
In the last of the four stories, a businessman walks out of his house on a Sunday afternoon and disappears. His wife has no idea why or where he has gone and nor have his friends, but the police, when finally persuaded to investigate, gradually unravel a pattern of deceit and a secret double life.
